Capturing a clip is relatively easy. First, capture your subject and start recording. The process make take several hours, as the app does not use photos to put the time-lapse video together. After you feel you’ve captured enough of the subject, stop recording and the app does the rest. From the backend, it stitches the very long video together into a 3-5 second clip.
It’s basically like a chipmunk audio recording but for video. In order for the video to look great, long hours of filming is required. As a result, Instagram also added a stabilizer to ensure that the clips are captured well and does not get compromised by shaky hands.
It is important to take note that Hyperlapse is only available on iOS. Google’s camera permissions does not allow this app to work on Android devices. Instagram Hyperlapse | Vimeo
